I Resign

I’ve not been sadder in ages. In fact I’m a very happy go lucky man. Happy in rags or riches, in the company of paupers or Kings. I’ve found happiness within. Yet today I must pour my heart ❤ to you for one last time

First of all please note my email address crystal.kazmi@gmail.com as in the last one week three of my WhatsApp numbers have been literally banned. So maybe you will see this number but I will still be banned and hence I won’t be able to communicate. I’ve no idea HOW LONG this number will be active

My fault?

I spoke my mind. I was threatened I was demeaned I was labeled all sorts of things

I was born in Pakistan into a Muslim family. But truth be told I’ve never really been someone who goes with how a slave thinks or acts. I’m a free man. I’m more like an American or a European in my thought process and values. Egalitarian, kind and loving towards all humanity. Pakistanis unfortunately tend to hate so many ideals, sects and groups then shower love upon a minute minority, that too conditionally!

I’m sad my countrymen let me down. They had my numbers banned from WhatsApp because I for the life of me could not understand why a particular sect is literally manhandled in what and how they can call themselves!

I am sorry. I’m not so narrow minded. I just cannot be. And if it means you hate me then please go ahead

My happiness lies in my head not in your insinuations and hatred

May whichever God Allah Bhagwan Yahweh Christ or Buddha you believe in bring you out of hate as I wrote long ago at tinyurl.com/kodeofkonduct even in utter despair and sadness my sincere prayers for your spiritual release from hate. For that is the real path of Satan or whichever term you use for evil

God bless and goodbye forever. Please if you must only contact me privately I will remain in groups passively at best no interest in hate or the arrogant

Please ONLY USE email or phone to contact me. WhatsApp can go figure. Crystal.Kazmi@gmail.com

Death of a politician’s son

جس نه لكها سو فىصد صحيح، عمران كاظمى hundred percent correct whoever wrote this. CrystalHeart, we truly have become a stonehearted nation, whichever way you look at it

Rs vs $

One idea for every Pakistani

What if we ban all imports except in one scenario. That the international seller accepts Pak Rs instead of dollars. Or the firm is compensated with property complexes built for foreigners like JLT Marina Ranches Emirates Hills etc in Dubai. But only for foreign investors and sellers. Allow bars massage parlors and literally an EU US similar environment in those gated communities

The first idea ie forcing sellers to accept Pak Rs which is still an instrument of economic value valid in Pakistan as a tool. The more people accept it the more Pak Rs will gain the status of global currencies

I am sure atleast 30 to 40 percent of global suppliers will sit on the negotiating table with us and make it happen!

Please propagate this if you think it’s of value. CrystalHeart Kazmi blahblah.info

Dr Khan, Dean NUST & Member Economic Advisory Committee of PTI Gov hints at following IMF blindly is akin to suicide for Pakistan, are you reading & listening to the writing on the wall?

“The IMF programme is not in the interest of Pakistan and its going to be very painful for the economy,” said Dr Ashfaq Hassan Khan, member of the Economic Advisory Council, which is headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Dr Khan, the principal and dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at National University of Science and Technology, is the only member in the council who opposes the so-called IMF financial package. “The IMF programme will choke Pakistan’s economy and restrict its GDP growth to 2 per cent to 2.5 per cent. It will increase unemployment, devalue the rupee and accelerate inflation,” Dr Khan told Khaleej Times.

Analysts said the recent devaluation has added around Rs667 billion to Pakistan’s external debt, and forex reserves also dwindled accordingly. During the week ending May 10, the SBP’s reserves decreased by $138 million to $8.84 billion due to external debt servicing and other official payments. Total foreign exchange reserves, which also includes $7.04 billion held by commercial banks, dropped to $15.89 billion on May 10.

Famous Pakistani and world reputable economist Atif Mian explain why Pakistani economy is in mess: These points are eye openers for those who despite not able to run a “Paan shop “, but become an expert on economy.

1/ On Pakistan’s Independence Day 2018 , why is the country still far from economic independence? (e.g. seeking its largest bail out ever this year):

I’ll focus on last 5 years as an example … it will get a bit technical but i’ll try to be clear.

2/ Economic growth is almost entirely a function of domestic productivity growth. What matters is investment in building your institutions and people.

Instead pak govts have increasingly looked outside in what i’d call an attempt at “import-led” growth … it doesn’t work.

3/ The idea is to borrow from outside, and task another country with building your infrastructure or institutions, and hope some magic others .

The latest example starts in 2013, when PML-N comes to power and decides to outsource growth to China. I’d explain why it doesn’t work.

4/ Gov funds large infrastructure projects through China’s Belt and Road Initiative (CPEC in pakistan), external debt rises from 62 to 90 billion $. The borrowing raises domestic demand “artificially”, making Pakistan more expensive and less competitive globally.

5/ This is a variant of the famous “dutch disease” and Pak suffered an extreme version of it. Poof?

Real effective exchange rate (pak prices relative to trading partners) increased by 20+ % and total exports DID NOT INCREASE over past 5 years.

6/ To make matters worse, Pakistan’s “in-law” finance minister strips away independence of the central bank and sets the terrible policy of keeping the exchange rate appreciated. Now Pakistan has the dutch disease, on steroids.

7/ Meanwhile there is a blanket ban on any objective assessment of CPEC. Ask a question, and you’d be accused of conspiring against national interest.

Media feeds the frenzy that its a “game changer” & a big bubble develops in the port city (currently largely sand) of Gawadar.

8/ Real estate bubbles further artificially raise domestic demand, & given the senseless exchange rate policy, it makes the dutch disease sclerotic

Notice we haven’t even gotten into whether the $$ borrowing is “sustainable”, the damage is being done before any repayment is due.

9/ So lets talk about debt sustainability now.

The first thing to remember is, you are borrowing in dollars, while most revenue from the projects are in rupees (think domestic transportation use and local energy consumption)

This is a big problem for two reasons.

10/ First, the whole enterprise is exposed to exchange rate (ER) risk. A future depreciation of the currency, which is almost certain to happen given the inane ER policy, will jeopardize profitability.

12/ Another big ? on sustainability is that the borrowing and spending deals are highly opaque. No one really knows what’s going on.

For example, what is the cost of capital in CPEC? A loan contract may report a “concessional” rate of 2%. But is it really 2%? Consider this …

13/ There is no open bidding and Chinese companies decide everything. They charge 100$ for equipment, but put in place lower quality equipment worth only $80.

Guess what, the “true” cost of capital just went up to (2+20)/80=27.5%!

14/ There is a lot China and Pakistan can gain from each other. But deals have to be structured properly, with proper macro-prudential framework. Unfortunately, none of that was done.

The govt wanted a shiny new road real bad before the next election, which they lost anyways.

15/ Let’s hope for better economic sense this time.

Isn’t Atif Mian hated in Pakistan only because of his religious beliefs ie Ahmedi. For they are not even ALLOWED to call themselves thanks to drunkard Bhuttos 73 constitution made with the Mullahs? While Jinnah was secular to the core his vision was raped in the name of Islam by his own people

So why are you educating people with the comments of a Kafir? Brother they don’t care. Give them opinions of Maulana Diesel on economy or similar and they will respect you at least they are certified Muslims with the seal of approval of 73 constitution

What a joke of a nation

I copy below response to a Mem Saheb from UK. Makes perfect sense as a response to many Pakistanis doubts on using retired armed forces for law & order and low taxes to stimulate economy

I’ve spent a lot of time in the company of army men, at a personal and professional level and at ALL levels, lowest to highest, serving and retired, in one sentence you have summed an average Pakistan’s lack of understanding of the dynamics of this area

1 An Officer is generally of good health even in old age and I know many who nearing 80 are driving RVs in Virginia (Majors from Pak Army and their Col / Gen friends) – they haven’t contributed enough as they served in a peace keeping army and their need is now more than ever as the men serving cannot be spared for the tasks they can easily manage

2 Unemployed for Police!!! 🙂 my dearest, we are not talking about a laborer’s job here, we are talking about law and order, and it is a sensitive topic, army officers are trained in MP, MI and ISI and discipline and rules (ask them about MPML and ARR/I) they being clean are our BEST BET for a clean environment which is a PRE REQUISITE for economic growth

3 Look at it this way, you apparently live somewhere in England, what IF British Police and Judges were as horrible, bikao, intimidating and corrupt as Pakistani? Do the math…

You speak of “progressive” taxation, my idea is the opposite, with a SUPER LOW tax base you need to EXPAND it by INCENTIVIZING people to PAY TAXES I’d even offer them LUCKY DRAWS if they pay up, again it appears you have no clue of the mess BOTH our law and order and taxation systems are in, I don’t blame you, I learnt it the hard way, just passing on my experience to you in goodwill and good faith

You are 100% RIGHT on building capacity, my suggestion will help do that precisely by enabling production and growth

You speak of EXPORT promotion, I think we need to focus on REPLACING IMPORTS with indigenous alternates as a FIRST step to reduce trade deficit and parity

Skills audit, we’ll get there as we cross the bridges

Sent to the lady self explanatory. Kindly read carefully and ponder a while this isn’t knee jerk stuff it’s observation and experience of 2 decades. Absorb it like a slow drip. Let it sink in. And when it does your entire paradigm to change in Pakistan will change. See my sites and blogs in more detail then here

Then shoot your ideas for the economy!  Mines simple go to IMF ask for interest exemption for two years. Next give police and judiciary to retired army officers ask for no mercy and Swift fair conciliation based justice except criminal where ask for exemplary. Next put up 10 percent flat sales tax on all products zero income or wealth tax. Give sales tax exemption to investors to 5% only no income tax who put in 10 million dollars or above or employ 100 people or more. Both cases the economy will REBOOT

A Question

Dear IBA Finance and Banking Group Members

As I understand it anybody with a green passport is deeply concerned that we are going down hill at the speed of light as an economy

Can we use this amazing forum via the admin and moderators to have a moderated, professionally done discussion here and perhaps on a LinkedIn group specifically on jump starting the economy? I’ve also created a separate group as described in the end but it will be better if you all shared this with each other right here!

This is important for reasons you know too well

Whatever the output can be virtually signed by all and submitted to the Government. We’re not eyeing top positions in GOP only that we retain a semblance of hope and respect as Pakistanis. No more no less

If you agree with my humble suggestion I want you to answer this question with a simple yes and no and if any qualifying remarks you believe will add further clarity and hope

Someone said a long time ago. If it is to be it is up to me. Bear that in mind. For the team is here is the combined me of all of us

It will be nice if any of you IT savvy create the linkedin group and share here

God bless you all

IMF loan to Pakistan is 6 billion US Dollars.
Uber stock exchange listing in the USA was of 8 billion US Dollars.

Uber bought Careem for 3.1 billion US Dollars.

So if government becomes encouraging towards technology and startups, who knows that a single mobile app can pay off pakistan’s debt.

Kissinger diaries, are they real or fake?

Dear friends & family

Worth reading … from DailySquib maybe it’s fake maybe not. Kissinger is one of the most influential experienced strategist in the US. He commands unanimous respect despite his Vietnam war hawk role of kill anything that walks with anything that flies doctrine which killed almost a million people

His predictions sound hard to believe but world events seem to have confirmed them in many places

His final advice is what I had for all of you 10 years back when some infection was spreading h1n1 I don’t remember. Anyway his prediction is based on a doomsday’s apocalyptic world where the hungry GadhaParty.com of the world will be killing anyone who has food

Read it atleast and make up your mind before you trash 🔷 Kissinger: World War III will come …

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger made loud and dangerous statements after being swallowed up by a long silence until people almost forgot his existence.

“The Third World War is on the way, and Iran will be the starting point in that war, in which Israel will have to kill as many Arabs as possible and occupy half of the Middle East,” Kissinger said in an interview with the DailyScape.

“We have told the US military that we are forced to occupy seven countries in the Middle East because of their strategic importance, especially because they contain oil and other economic resources. There is only one step left, which is to strike Iran,” he said.

“When China and Russia move from their stupidity, the big bang and the Great War will have been won, and only one force, Israel and America, will win,” he said. “Israel will have to fight with all its strength and weapons to kill as many Arabs as possible. And the occupation of half of the Middle East. ”

“The drums of war are already ringing in the Middle East, and the deaf is the only one who does not hear them,” Kissinger said, noting that if things went well, from his point of view, Israel would control half of the Middle East.

Kissinger noted that American and European young people have been well trained in the fighting in the last 10 years, and when they are ordered to go out to fight the crazy ones, they will obey orders and turn them [Muslims] into ashes.

We haved hired or purchased many local nationals from these islamic countries and they are working for our plans as we have done heavy investment on them. These are doing well beyond our expectations. Due to these traitors we are very near to our planned goals.

Kissinger also stated that “America and Israel have prepared coffins for Russia and Iran, and Iran will be the last nail in this coffin, after America gave them a chance to recover and a false sense of power. Then they will fall forever, so that America (Freemasonry) can build a new world community, where there will be only one government with superpower. ”

Kissinger confirmed that he had a great dream at the moment that his vision of events was realized. For those who do not know Henry Kissinger, the former Secretary of State and one of the most famous emperors of world rule and the architects of the new world order, he was born in 1923 in Germany to a Jewish family.

All well meaning Pakistanis who side with the oppressed

Following is the video statement of a lady Tayyaba Gul who claims she and her husband were harassed by Chairman NAB, police and others

As a women’s rights activist myself I demand that this case be investigated by national and international law and order agencies in an impartial way under the watch of COAS Pakistan as Pakistan Army is the only functioning and fair institution left in Pakistan. Our corruption in police, judiciary and other state organs is evident to all in or outside Pakistan

Let the truth be known to the people of Pakistan. And let women be respected and protected then ridiculed as evident here

The other side of the story. All must see and have it investigated

A daughter’s appeal to COAS

Following is a disturbing account which needs us as good humans to unite

The bare-footed girl is Advocate Umme Rubab Chandio, a 20-year-old girl, belongs to a small village of Sindh. Her three elders (Grandfather, Father and Uncle) were brutally murdered allegedly by a tribal chieftain in 2018. Inspite of all risks and threats this corrageous girl has challenged the power lords and lodged FIR against them. Today she appeared in the court bare-footed to mark her protest against and lay bare apathy of this rusted system where law and justice always side with the powerful. Umme Rubbab is an icon of unflinching courage and tireless struggle to seek justice from a system which seldom recognises human values. She deserves support of every person bearing a grain of conscience

Please see video by 20 year old girl addressed to COAS Gen Qamar Bajwa

Educated people sorry ‘so called’ educated people make fun of me when I say that people of Pakistan 🇵🇰 only trust our army and not politicians. I explained in detail in changepakistannow.wordpress.com later in GadhaParty.com and WomenAreVotes.com

No one in Pakistan trusts anyone else. Least of all politicians. Even Imran Khan has been exposed as partisan and incompetent

Why doesn’t the army listen to the call of the people? They already have our trust and our blessings for their expenditures for the money spent on you is the only justified expenditure in Pakistan. What else does the army need besides the above video? An invitation signed by 200 million people to please come and rule us and solve our problems?

When will the army understand this? Before or after disintegration of Pakistan in the hands of corrupt bureaucrats, police, institutions and politicians?

I fail to understand the silence of Pakistan Army behind an antiquated, misinterpreted and abused constitution and democracy

I hope Gen Bajwa and others listen to this daughter of Pakistan. And remember what happened to Zainab, to Farishta, to all the people murdered by politicians like Shahzeb and others. Like the Nab Chairman who speaks of kissing a girl from head to toe in his office paid by tax money and his salary from the same, and yet all powerful defend him! In the so called ‘holy’ month of Ramadan!

Dear Army. Wake up. Your number one enemy is not India. It is number 2. Number 1 is democracy. Please listen to the people then international media or their paid agents in Pakistan and abroad. Have the courage to say and do the right thing my beloved soldiers!

Keys to happiness

Key to Happiness
CrystalHeart Imran Kazmi

1 expectations. lesser better, none best

2 judgment, none besides yourself

3 cribbing over the past, accept your past for what it is, you can’t change it

4 fearing the future, let it flow

5 narcissism, funny as it may sound narcissism limits happiness as we do not think through the consequence of our habits, addictions and patterns, the key to resolve it is to take full responsibility of our actions

6 love, believe me I actually found love a BARRIER to happiness! Because love makes you possessive, unduly concerned, over-expecting and far less forgiving then we should be. I think healthy love is being there when needed to the extent you can comfortably without wild ‘in return’ expectations

The key to happiness then is to just let go and live the moment you’re in!

Why am I hated and despised by my own?

Dear Friends,

Allow me to tell you that I’m one of the most hated and despised man among the people I know myself!

The reason is simple. I am a self proclaimed reformer of Muslims and even the whole world! That’s borderline insanity if not completely for some 🙂 and also why many get upset at what is a more blunt version of the truth as I openly put across

I am in fact concerned about you and the world we live in. Where you and I are like powerless spectators watching with agony and awe as horrible things unfold. Wars. Hate. Crimes. Often by state or faith sponsors then just individuals! The global financial and police systems are somehow programmed for failure. Foreign relations between world nations are perhaps at an all time low. We face the threat of a Third World War over economies, faith and water

Hence we all face the very REAL risk of suffering in this vortex of hate and incompetence that is the world today. Whether via terrorism, stereotyping or simply acts of hate and violence among individuals and nations

Our best defence is awareness and knowledge which is what I disseminate often at loggerheads with some of you

My ravings at blahblah.info for all to read all over the world. My message is peace within yourself and within your and the global communities

Support me if you may for I am a lone voice of change in a planet filled with hatred then love for the poor, oppressed and victims of rape, crimes or discrimination

Have a good morning and a great day ahead!

All the best. CrystalHeart

Ahmedi Issue

Following is a thread worth reading…

First message by Major Shahid Rehman. A dear friend and elder
Second reply by his Neice Ms Chemaine Majid an idealistic lady
Third by Toor Sb a fine retired army officer
And the final reply by myself CrystalHeart Kazmi where I seek to focus my poor and lawless nation attention on progress then religion

Major Shahid Rehman

Ahmedi issue.
I think intelligent people should close this debate. I don’t want to belittle or argue on something which has many tiers of controversies around it.
But, being a Muslim majority country, like many other countries, we have to build ourselves according to the verbiage and narrative of the majority.
Muslims all over the world don’t want Ahmedis. Period !! End of discussion.
Unfortunately, in Pakistan ,some Fifth-Columnist types want to belittle the country and it’s people on every single issue. No problem with that in a democracy. But, in many countries where there national harmony is important, certain issues are closed for debate or discussion. Intelligent people and nations don’t create fisaad.
In EU countries, there is still animosity towards each other from bygone era, but they have maintained a smoothness on the surface and let the envy, resentment against each other and hatred between themselves, be buried under a tacit understanding that there will be no controversy which will lead to divisiveness and wars. The Christian world has seen, been through the most devastating wars not even a hundred years ago.
Today, they are still fighting and are at war, through other means, as economic and social issues. They don’t let any controversy rise it’s ugly head that may blow up into another devastating war in their cities, towns and villages.
We, as educated and enlightened people don’t need to bring up the Ahmedi issue over and over again. Decent folks don’t create nuisance for others.
We all have Ahmedi friends, I have many, right here in Pakistan, but we never, ever since our youth discussed or argued on our beliefs.
I suggest to the Admin that the Ahmedi subject should be banned from the Forum. As it does not appeal to an intellectual type of person to talk about it, as it is unjust and not good enough ethics to bring about something which is sensitive to our people.
Thank you. Admin.
SR.

Chemaine Majid

Muslims all over the world dont make the ahmedi issue controversial like we do. They do not hate them and consider them muslims. They hve been declared non muslims by us. Why not leave it at that? Why degrade and demean? And keep questioning their patriotism. Why doesnt a sign on a shop window telling them not to enter not raise the ire of members in this group? Dont u guys see the wrong here or is collective conscious dead.

Brig Liaqat Toor

It’s dead and that’s pretty clear. This fact is also the main cause of our never ending, enormous woes.

CrystalHeart Kazmi (me)

Shahid Saheb. Sir you are an elder and a very fine man. I agree with the gist of your message. Chemaine like me is an idealist. We are not practical people like you. All great nations including our own were built by idealists. Never did Jinnah display such myopia as you summarised of our masses. For him it was a progressive separate Muslim homeland that was important where all faiths were free to go their way without state judging or interfering. Now Chemaine and my point is simple why since 1973 our state has become so active in personal religious matter? If the people so will then the people are wrong sir. If people tomorrow ask to burn criminals for robberies will you agree with them sir? People at large cannot be allowed to decide state policies for greater human norms and principles that you and I and Toor Sb and all others stand for come into play

Ahmedis are not important I think their total global population is a mere few hundred thousand. Such a small less than a minority given so much importance as shop signs Chemaine showed shows how much hatred our people harbor in their hearts for nonsense reasons

You and I and we all are influencers and silent leaders and intellectuals of our society. We should shift public opinion to what is right then to get scared of the mob and parrot their talk sir

Pakistan number one issues are economic, law and order, good governance then futile discussions on better ways to hate, demean and disenfranchise a miniscule minority sir

I hope you carefully read and knowing you seek your agreement

May Allah ST guide us to tolerance on Jumat al Wida

Ameen

Pakistanis for Progress (PFP)

Pakistan is a country completely misunderstood, not just by those outside (which is understandable) but also those inside. We, at PFP or Pakistanis for Progress intend to make it clear to all and sundry, with ample evidence and logical thought just what was the real intent or foundation of Pakistan and how discovering and following the same can lead us to internal and external success

We at Pakistanis for Progress or PFP stand behind the following background and aims, we intend to improve upon them with national consensus and present to leadership to implement. Or find a way to contest elections ourselves and win this nation back!

The people of Pakistan want a good life, they also talk about the hereafter, but given a choice, they prefer the luxuries and material success of this world. Therefore they are no different from any people anywhere else in the world in general. The problem is not what they want, but what they say they want, which is often what they are programmed to say what they’re want through clergy, rituals, culture and norms that need to be done away with

Today Pakistan is plagued with all sorts of problems imaginable, the government and civil society is banging their heads on every wall they can find for a solution. But there seems to be none in sight. In this backdrop I am launching a movement with likeminded progressive Pakistanis to suggest and implement solutions that actually work

Failure of PTI (Ruling Party of Pakistan) and all other parties in understanding or solving crisis after crisis

Tabdeeli (change) the slogan of the revolutionary PTI seems to have fallen flat on it’s face. Old school parties either disqualified or revealed as corrupt in front of the masses cannot claim to do any better than PTI. So, in short, there is no savior in sight, no formula to arrest a declining Rupee which instead of enabling exports is increasing the quantum of debt instead. A quick look at google reveals the horrid state of girl child and female safety in Pakistan, latest being the bone chilling murder of 10 year old Farishta in the Capital City where Imran Khan Rules the Rooster of Pakistan. PTI has failed on all counts it’s predecessors failed, only worse. Because it set high expectations it never had a plan, competence or team to deliver change it proclaimed. U turn upon U turn, they went back on almost all their claims and promises, even the first 100 days had 100 U turns! It is apparent PTI never had the ability to deliver Pakistan from the mess it’s in and all that remains now is a state of financial instability that destabilizes Pakistan Army and hence puts its very geographical integrity at stake. Myths is all political parties have when questioned about performance and some are debunked right here.

Reimagining Pakistan, the only way out

Let’s face the truth, Pakistanis never fought for freedom or earned it like the French, Russian Revolutions or the American Revolutionary War against the British. The British left India and much of Africa after their humbling experiences of World War 2. Therefore freedom was GIVEN to India and Pakistan, so many proofs exist! The military history of Pakistan records the first Commander-in-Chief as Sir Frank Walter Messervy followed by Sir Douglas David Gracey proving that freedom was never “snatched” from the British but gradually, methodically given away as part of their longer term colonial exit strategy. In fact the Pakistan Army, Civil Services and even the Constitution has a very large measure of British creation evident in documentation, rules, titles, policies and procedures to this very day!

Jinnah‘s Pakistan

The founder of Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah was a secular, progressive and open minded man. He consumed alcohol and was far from the life of a staunch Muslim, the main protagonist claimed to be behind the creation of Pakistan by the Mullah inspired middle and lower classes of Pakistan. Jinnah was forced to wear an Islamist Cloak by the hardliners which has been debunked in this New York Times article. In short, Jinnah wanted a democratic state where there was no compulsion on religion and people were free to live as they wanted.

Religion was not the cornerstone of Jinnah’s Pakistan, safety was, safety from India’s dominant Hindus bent upon revenge as evident today in how minorities suffer there as depicted by Human Rights Watch and the Forbes. Hence as per The New Yorker religious intolerance is not a myth in India today (the raison d’etre for Pakistan) but is also evident in similar, though as per the Hudson Institute lesser yet significantly worrisome measure in Pakistan.

Jinnah’s Pakistan, today, has been turned into an intolerant land where minorities are harassed and where economic survival necessities (as per the ADB), let alone luxuries like education (Daily Times depressingly dismal), healthcare (Dawn, 5 times worse than Thailand or Sri Lanka!) and justice (EurAsia News, poor rot in jails and criminals sit in parliaments, in short) which are distant dreams if at all a possibility.

Jinnah must be turning in his grave, this is not what he negotiated Pakistan for!

Where Pakistanis went (very) wrong?

Since the Pakistanis never really fought for freedom, they simply became a “brown” extension of the British Raj. A terrible extension to be precise. Many Pakistanis live in urban myths, an average Pakistani will tell you:

  • Pakistan was created by God (the British created it)
  • The whole world is against Pakistan (Pakistanis are their own worst enemies)
  • We are the citadel of Islam (with umpteen sects, cultures, languages, religion is a different adaptation in different parts of the country, often at loggerheads with each other) – yet there are animated even violent debates and crimes committed to prove religious dogmas notwithstanding the example of “if it looks like duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it IS a duck!” yet the ducks of Pakistan are often not even accepted as ducks because of narrow interpretations of faith and hypocrisies in condoning another sect with largely similar beliefs as they happen to be in larger numbers! Convenient hypocrisy!
  • A dangerously dysfunctional obsession with Islam. Pakistanis indulge their time in vilifying different sects of Islam. Some aren’t even allowed to call themselves Muslims. The narratives on Islam are never ending and as divergent as the country itself. While the common man is given dreams of Sharia, his children sending precious foreign exchange back home work in the MidEast or West often as labor, taxi drivers transporting all including drunkards and as bouncers in bars. Their income however begotten is happily enjoyed at home, however the hypocrisy and double standards start when wine and massage parlors, the two main ingredients of tourism in addition to natural beauty, heritage and adventure sport are completely amiss for tourists in Pakistan while available in ample and cheap supply to locals! Yet when confronted, the so called “good and pure Muslims” have no argument, no rationale and no alibi for the obvious, so they resort to blame, abuse and slander, things we’ve hence become immune to, if this is the price of speaking the truth so be it!
  • Nuclear power, a myth going around all strata of society, with little, if any, cognizance of the fact that warfare is economic today. Look at Japan, a nation smothered by the Americans in WW2, or China, a nation once ridiculed for “cheap quality products”, or South Korea, a country people didn’t even know existed today spearheading Samsung, LG, Hyundai, Daewoo and more. Look at the Americans as they sanction Huawei, an act 1,000 times stronger than 30 days of conventional warfare success against China. Except China, the rest are non nuclear, and yet very strong economically and their nationals enjoy respect all over the world. It is good to have nukes, but they’re not enough, and they’re like a high maintenance girlfriend, to keep your nukes prim and proper you need a lot of cash at hand and in the bank, from delivery mechanism to enrichment, it’s all about money! So going ballistic on being a “nuclear power” is an ill placed sense of pride in isolation
  • An uncomfortably exploitative and twisted aristocratic civil services, political structure and public sector firms. These are the ill-begotten sons of the Colonial Empire, who have moved ahead to a lean and mean, accountable and servant leadership style back in England, EU, US, Australia and NZ, however ex colonies such as India, Pakistan, African nations, South America are still plagued with their Master-Slave leadership style and governance structure. Ironic as it may seem almost 80 years post colonization most of the ex slaves still think, act, feel and behave like slaves, freedom is not easy for people who, from a young age, are taught to BLINDLY SUBMIT to authority, without questioning the moral, ethical or even legal legitimacy of the same! Hence the rich and powerful of Pakistan be they criminals, fraudsters, even hate mongers and inspiration of terror groups get respect and obedience from a masses who have never really risen or stood up for what is right!

The way out for Pakistan

Pakistan needs to take hard decisions that we as Progressive Pakistanis support and insist on implementation, but for that we first need the educated and enlightened to join our ranks, our aims are as follows:

  • Separate religion from the state – let the state focus on crimes then ensuring the implementation of a Holy Book. Let the Holy Book be respected and adhered to at an individual level and the state to ensure RESPECT for all faiths through softer mechanisms then the current harsher blasphemy law measures
  • Focus on tourism – that’s Pakistan’s LOWEST hanging fruit! But Pakistanis do not realize that while alcohol and massage parlors / sex shops are wide spread all over Pakistan covertly – their overt absence drives away tourism that we could catch due cheaper airfare to India, Sri Lanka, Far East and Mid East. Our leadership needs to educate the masses that their greed and satiation for worldly goods goes hand in hand with the model of governance the countries they immigrate to practice! One can write a book on what needs to be done in the tourism sector but suffice to say key reforms as above will atleast motivate foreigners to travel to Pakistan with much needed Dollars and Euros as of today
  • Law and order – except Ayub Khan, none of the Pakistani leaders took this aspect seriously. A nation where one feels insecure, unsafe and exploited by the powerful because police is generally corrupt and the justice system is antiquated, complex and unfriendly not to mention unfair – for if one evaluates the inmates of jails in Pakistan a larger majority of them will be personal and political victims. Investors, local or foreign do not touch you unless you can show them transparent and professionally run police and justice system. One can see changepakistannow.wordpress.com or womenarevotes.com to see how retired armed forces personnel can quickly, efficiently and professionally bring about this much needed change!
  • Low cost governance – had there been a disaster and 90% of the Government and it’s arms were destroyed, the masses of Pakistan will feel no difference – because the Government of Pakistan exists to serve Government servants, their friends, families and acquaintances then whatever the truth is
  • Low taxation – For years we’ve propagated a flat VAT like 10% tax on all goods created and sold, this will result in local and foreign investments leading to jobs, treasury increase and a healthy, positive environment then one where blasphemy and “who can be called a Muslim” or “the world is out to get us” sort of cliched and rhetorical discussions are replaced with just ONE word: WORK! Increase the tax base, use the reformed police & judiciary to enforce execution. With a 200 mn plus population, if enforced we will be able to comfortably meet our international lenders’ obligations. In order to make this happen the government must substantially reduce governance expenditure by 90% at least. Cut down bureaucracy completely and replace with decent retired army officers or professionals form all walks of life, post this the government needs to go to the IMF and ask for a 2-5 years interest break exemption, thereafter a rebooted, refreshed and productive economy will benefit all. As of right now, a regressive investment climate and high taxation coupled with spiraling inflation and a deflating currency is pushing the Government towards a total financial collapse
  • Pay for imports with Pak Rs – currencies build value when they are traded, Pak Rs is not traded, only exchanged for Dollars or another currency of repute. However, reality is different, 200 million people use this financial instrument (Pak Rupee) – it can be used in Pakistan to buy any of our produce! Hence import firms should be offered Rupee instead of $s, we’ll win some, we’ll lose many, no worries – over time the Rupee will become important to the whole world. The government can also offer foreigners local rights when making investment, securing them and driving our currency up
  • One window foreign (or local) investment facilitation – taxes, order, visas, process, fun – these are bottlenecks to investment. We’ve covered flat 10% taxes and retired army officers based police above. What remains are difficult as hell to acquire visas to a country no one really wants to visit! and the antiquated, bureaucratic process full of red tape that literally drives investors away, add to that investors want to have fun! They socialize in bars not like Pakistanis who have bars in F7 Islamabad or Defence Lahore or Karachi or so on all over the place! To top it all off, a one window low cost and simplified business setup is our dire need to increase FDI (foreign direct investment)

We will thus be closer to Mr Jinnah’s progressive vision for Pakistan, at long last!
